With a sold-out exhibit hall and a 16-percent rise in attendance from its ’09 event—up 24-percent for the past two shows—the 2010 DJ Expo raised the roof at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J., this past Aug. 16-19.

Presented by DJ Times and its publisher Testa Communications, the Expo drew raves and celebrated its 20 years in AC with its unique combination of exhibits, seminars and parties. While major suppliers like Pioneer DJ, Native Instruments and Denon DJ, among others, broke out new products, industry legends like DJ Jazzy Jeff and Sean “Hollywood” Hamilton presented Expo keynotes. And evening events included hot performances from chart-toppers like Mike Posner and Kelly Rowland (during the Promo Only/Pioneer party at House of Blues) and turntable talent like Skribble and DJ Shiftee (during the Friends of DJ Times party at Ego Lounge).

Missed it this year? Don’t worry—the dates for the 2011 show are set: Aug. 8-11 at The Taj.

“Had a great time as always,” said DJ Jeff Oden of Shippensburg, Pa. “I’ve been attending for about 10 years, and I like to attend seminars like DJ Jazzy Jeff’s, just to hear about how he started and where new technology has taken him. I also like to hear new ideas and strategies to gain clients and grow my business, like Jerry Bazata’s [Sales Strategies] seminar.”

“This was my 11th year,” added DJ John Horne of Huntingdon, Pa., “and I think the show just keeps getting better and better. I left with a car full of equipment—although that’s nothing new.”
“I’ve been to the last 10 or so,” said DJ Jerry Ianelli of Voorhees, N.J., “and it’s slammin’ as much as ever.”

“Kudos to DJ Times, its staff, sponsors and supporters for putting on another great Expo this year in AC,” said Felix Tapia of Moodswing360, a NYC-based talent agency. “Always great to see old and new faces from across the industry.”

For the annual mobile-DJ competition, Connecticut jock Keith Alan took the “DJ of the Year” title. Additionally, DJ Times gave special recognition to the Ultimate DJ Expo Attendee and the Ultimate Expo Exhibitor—attendees and exhibitors who have supported every single show since its 1990 inception.

Ultimate Expo Attendees: Sid Vanderpool (DJ Zone Network, Twin Falls, Idaho) and John Hohman (Metromix, Pittsburgh, Pa.)

Ultimate Expo Exhibitors: Alan Cabasso (GCI Technologies, Edison, N.J.) and Neil Altneu (Denon DJ, Itasca, Ill.)

Peter Crook of Crook Caraoke in Mays Landing, NJ, won the annual Ultimate DJ Giveaway, which included: Rane SL3 interface for Serato Scratch Live; Denon DN-S3700 turntable media player and controller; Beamz Professional laser beam musical instrument and studio software; three months of 6 Promo Only subscriptions (winner’s choice); American DJ ADJ Fusion FX bar mobile system; Crown XLS 602 power amplifier; JBL Pro JRX 100 portable 15-inch 2-way speaker system; Pioneer DJ MEP-7000 multi-entertainment player; Pioneer DJ DJM-700 digital DJ mixer; and Pioneer DJ HDJ-2000 headphones.

Thanks to all exhibitors, attendees and performers for making the 2010 DJ Expo the best ever!
