Remix Hotel Miami, presented by Beatport with Premier Technology Partner Apple, established its most successful event to date, as an attendance of more than 10,000 avid music enthusiasts flocked to The National Hotel for the nation's leading music-technology showcase from Thursday, March 27 through Sunday, March 30. General admission was free.
Remix Hotel, a traveling music-production and performance showcase produced by Remix® magazine, saw three days of interactive workshops, seminars and product demonstrations along with four days of performances and appearances by some of the world’s top artists, DJs and producers. Remix Hotel Miami, the longest-running independent showcase during the week of Miami’s Winter Music Conference, continued to establish itself as a staple annual event for the electronic-music industry while shaping the future of production and composition in today’s most progressive music genre.
The opening day featured world-renowned and internationally acclaimed DJ and producer Paul van Dyk as the headline keynote speaker for an exclusive Q&A session and interview hosted by Remix Editor Kylee Swenson. Friday featured Hi-Tek in the Stanton cabana, DJ Enferno giving a live remix demonstration with Scratch Live and Ableton Live in the Rane & Serato cabana and Richard Devine at Access Music—with continuous live demonstrations by experts from Akai, Numark, Euphonix, Korg, Native Instruments, Pioneer and Roland, to name just a few among a whole host of leading Technology Partners.
Premier Technology Partner Apple hosted daily VIP guest appearances with Talib Kweli, A-Trak and Josh Gabriel, among others. Additional leading electronic-music icons collaborated with the participating technology partners during Remix Hotel, including Reid Speed, King Britt, Dirty South, Junior Sanchez, Faust & Shortee, Stryke, Sharkey, Ida Engberg and Hanna. Through a series of intimate demonstrations attended by small groups of aspiring producers, DJs, engineers as well the fans themselves, each Technology Partner gave attendees a unique taste of what the future holds in the world of electronic- and urban-music production and performance. A product highlight that became the word on everyone’s lips at The National was the introduction of the innovative pocket-size Pacemaker DJ system—a revolutionary portable music player, from Swedish manufacturer Tonium, that comes equipped with an extensive range of professional
audio-manipulation features enabling limitless mixing between two independent channels with nearly everything you would expect in a full-size setup.
“Remix Hotel Miami continues to inspire, influence and educate attendees through our cutting-edge product demonstrations, workshops and seminars,” said Joe Perry, associate publisher of Remix magazine. “The daily Beatport Pool Parties gave music lovers some great entertainment, as well as the chance to relax and take a step away from the technology. With the help of our exceptional Technology Partners, Presenting Sponsor Beatport and Premier Technology Partner Apple, we broke all previous attendance records in Miami, which shows the increasing popularity of our flagship event. At this rate of growth, we may need to consider expanding on our physical presence during the four days in Miami.”
