Elation’s Impression LED Moving Head Wins Live Design “Lighting Product of the Year” Award

Elation Professional’s revolutionary Impression intelligent LED moving head fixture was chosen as a 2007-08 “Lighting Product of the Year” by Live Design magazine. The prestigious industry award was presented to Elation director of sales Eric Loader at an Excellence Awards reception held at XL LED Lab in the Soho district here on May 20.

An ultra-bright, fast-moving, compact fixture with an exceptional output-lumen-to-weight ratio, the Impression (available in both RGB and all-white versions) was the only product to win the award in the Luminaire category, and only one of four lighting products of any kind to receive Live Design Product of the Year awards. Winners were chosen by an independent panel of lighting designers and programmers, who, according to Live Design, were “nearly unanimous” in their selection of the Impression during the first round of voting.

“We are extremely honored that such a highly regarded industry force as Live Design singled out our Impression as their Luminaire Lighting Product of the Year,” said Loader. “The fact that this award was granted by designers and other professionals who work with lighting on a daily basis is a true testimonial to the Impression’s breakthrough technology and amazing performance.”

Calling the Impression a “slam-dunk for the judges,” Live Design noted that the panelists were impressed by the high output of the fixture, which is powered by 90 K2 Luxeon LEDs (comparable to 575W discharge), its speed (2-second pan and 1-second tilt), small size (16 lbs. and mountable on a 14” center), and low power draw. One judge described the Impression as having “way more output than I expected and almost as fast as a mirror head.” Another panelist hailed the Impression for providing a solution “when you need color and movement and don’t have much available weight or power – nicely packaged and perhaps. . . a glimpse of the future.”

Agreeing with this assessment, another judge summed it up: “I think the Impression gets (the award) because it finally starts to take LED technology into the fray of being a truly usable replacement. Impression is the wave of the future.”

The “future” may be already here -- a growing number of major concert tours and television productions are now using the Impression in their lighting rigs, said Loader. Among them are the recent R. Kelly, Jay-Z/Mary J. Blige and Bon Jovi tours, and WWE’s Raw, Smackdown and ECW weekly TV shows.

“Video and tour lighting designers are telling us that the Impression’s combination of high output, speed, instantaneous color changes, cool running temperature, light weight, low profile and energy savings offer them tremendous advantages,” said Loader. “Now that the Impression has won the Live Design Product of the Year award, it has received industry-wide recognition for these outstanding features.”
