American DJ’s Sunray Tri LED DMX Produces Colorful Array Of LED Beams

Published Oct 9, 2008

American DJ has introduced a new version of its popular Sunray LED centerpiece effect that incorporates the company’s exclusive Tri-Color LED Technology. With new high-output Sunray Tri LED DMX, DJs and mobile entertainers can now produce the excitement of LED moonflower effects in a variety of different colored beams.

A mirrorball-type rotating sphere effect, the Sunray Tri LED DMX shoots out 34 LED beams in 7 colors: red, blue, green, purple, white, yellow and cyan. Unlike standard LED moonflowers that can only produce beams in red, green and blue, the Sunray Tri LED DMX’s cutting-edge Tri-Color LED lamp design allows it to create this rainbow of colors . . . for more stunning visual excitement on the dance floor or at any entertainment venue.

“Our new Tri-Color LED Technology gives lighting users the excitement of being able to create a variety of multi-colored beams, while at the same time enjoying all of the benefits of LEDs, such as a long lamp life, low power draw and cool operating temperature,” said Scott Davies, General Manager of the American DJ Group of Companies. “With LED effects in the past, you were typically limited to red, green and blue beams. With revolutionary products like the Sunray Tri LED DMX, Tri-Color Technology takes LEDs to the next level by mixing colors inside the lamps, so that the lamps themselves change colors.”

Here’s how the Sunray Tri LED DMX’s advanced Tri-Color LED Technology works: The effect is powered by a 3W LED that is actually a 3-in-1 LED, comprised of three different color 1W LEDs a red, green and blue. Thanks to this Tri-Color lamp construction, RGB color-mixing can be performed within each LED light source. This allows actual LED beams to be created in a myriad of colors that go beyond the color of the lamp itself, such as purple, yellow and cyan.

Tri-Color LED Technology also results in smoother, more saturated mixed colors that make for a great mobile lighting effect, with or without fog. The results are beautiful, razor-sharp, vibrant multi-color beams of even-toned color at the flick of a switch.

These beams appear especially spectacular projecting from the Sunray Tri LED DMX, a rotating spherical effect with an impressive total of 34 lenses. The unit has one 3W Tri LED lamp that shines through the lenses to produce 34 crisp, bright beams at a 138° angle, covering an extremely wide area, and making for a great centerpiece effect.

Extremely simple to use, the Sunray Tri LED DMX can be run as a standalone effect in Sound Active mode right out of the box just plug it in and watch it rotate. It can also be operated with a standard DMX-512 controller, utilizing 3 DMX channels for controlling Dimmer/Strobe, Color, and Rotation Speed/Direction. In addition, it can be controlled from a distance using American DJ’s optional UC3 universal remote (sold separately).

Clubs, DJs and bands will appreciate the many other benefits that LED technology brings, such as low heat production. This keeps things cooler on the dance floor, and also lets you run the Sunray Tri LED DMX all night long without duty cycles for a high-energy light show that never quits. Plus, when it’s time for mobile entertainers to pack up, there’s no waiting period for the unit to cool down.

Another advantage is the long life of the unit’s LEDs, which are rated at 50,000 hours. This virtually eliminates the hassle and expense of lamp replacement. What’s more, since LEDs consume much less electricity than halogen lamps of equivalent output, users can hook up more units on a single circuit and also save big on energy costs. The ultra-efficient Sunray Tri LED DMX draws only 13W of power.

Super-compact and lightweight, the Sunray Tri LED DMX is ideal for mobile applications. It weighs just 4 lbs. and measures 8.25”L x 8.25”W x 7”H.
