The Producers & Engineers Wing (P&E Wing) of The Recording Academy® will help kick off and close the fourth annual Tape Op Magazine Conference, TapeOpCon2005, held June 10 – 12, 2005, in New Orleans, it was announced today. Tape Op also will work closely with the Producers & Engineers Wing to offer members of The Recording Academy a significant discount on admission to the three-day conference, further underscoring the organization's ongoing commitment to promote recording and audio education.

For current Producers & Engineers Wing or Recording Academy members, or anyone who registers to be a member of The Recording Academy before the conference, Tape Op is offering a $100 discount off the $350 admission cost to TapeOpCon2005. In addition, the P&E Wing and the Memphis Chapter of The Recording Academy will co-host an opening reception for their members who are speaking at the event. The Producers & Engineers Wing also will sponsor the TapeOpCon 2005 closing party to be held Sunday, June 12, at the historic Mid City Lanes Rock n' Bowl.

Held at the legendary Fairmont New Orleans Hotel that stands adjacent to the French Quarter in the central business district, the fourth annual Tape Op Conference will include many workshops and panels. Plus, this year the conference hosts a working "Pot Luck" Studio, where panelists will be doing live demos of their recording techniques. Panels include interviews with noted producers, mixing on a budget, the future of recording, and on opening night "The Not-So-Late Show" will premiere — the talk show comes to TapeOpCon with amazing guests and musical acts. Workshops include building a compressor, Pro Tools, Nuendo, Logic, Digital Performer, Tracktion sessions, compressor techniques, tips for buying used gear, surround, recording, solo artists, mastering, studio business pointers, understanding digital audio, home recording, using equalizers, D.I.Y. software and more. Everyone from Harry Shearer to Steve Albini will attend, and on Friday and Saturday nights there will be live music showcases at The Howlin' Wolf.

"Tape Op is honored to have The Recording Academy's Producers & Engineers Wing involved with TapeOpCon 2005," said Tape Op founder Larry Crane. "We're happy to extend to all Recording Academy members a special discount to attend this year's event, which will be the biggest and best one yet. We're proud to have the P&E Wing host our opening event and sponsor our closing party. I look forward to seeing everyone there."
