DJ Times & Club Systems International DJ Expo

You Can Go Hire:
New Jersey-based multi-system owner Mike Walter doesn't hire employees, he hires "headliners." As the owner of a 16-system company, Walter is well versed in what it takes to hire and train a stable of DJs. Find out how to pick the cream of the crop, every time, and train them so they'll represent your company with pride, and hassle-free.

Watts on Second?
Boston-based mobile DJ Dick Dean has been spinning for more than 20 years, and he's been dispensing funny one-liners since long before that. Dean is the master of the funny quip, and in this seminar, he'll share how he uses humor to defuse uncomfortable situations at a gig, during a consultation, or on a sales call. Find out how you can get your guests to laugh their way onto the dancefloor.

Top-Selling DJ Louie DeVito to Play Expo
Louie DeVito, America's top-selling DJ, will perform at the International DJ Expo. DeVito's latest mix compilation, Dance Factory, recently hit No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Sales Chart and his previous four CDs (NYC Underground Party, Vol. 1-4) broke sales records for a DJ-oriented release, according to Billboard's SoundScan Sales Charts. DeVito is also a popular Friday-night mix-show jock on hot New York-based dance station, WKTU.

Pools on Parade
Why are Record Pools the best bet for most club DJs? On Wednesday, August 28, at the DJ Expo's "Record Pools: The DJ's Lifeline," directors of America's top record pools will show you how DJs young and old can fully benefit from joining a pool. Hear Gary Deane of Mid-Atlantic Dance Promotions, Eardrum from Tables of Distinction and Dan Miller of the Dixie Dance Kings explain how they help hook up their DJs with connections at club and radio that ultimately forge a career path for those with enough drive to make it. Additionally, pools provide you with the latest records before they're hits because, as a pool member, you make the hits.

Phone Phenoms: Finding Your Client's Hot Buttons
Gauging the needs of your client is the first key to overcoming objections. In this seminar, Jose Gonzalez, owner of Elegancia Entertainment, uses actual recorded conversations between mobile DJs and their cold-calling customers. Discover battle-tested methods that will help you to identify objections and turn them into sales.

"The Myths & Methods of Beatmixing"
Whether you're a first-timer or an old-timer, this instructional 90-minute beatmixing workshop will help you hone your DJ skills to a new level. Taught by long-time club and mobile DJ Frank Garcia - owner of the Flushing, N.Y.-based Mainline Lighting & Sound - "The Myths & Methods of Beatmixing" will blend the knowledge of beats with the philosophies behind the mix. From a club kid who visited Larry Levan's Paradise Garage booth to the in-demand mobile who played Eddie Murphy's wedding and the club installer who designed lighting and sound for Manhattan's trendy Lotus venue, Frankie Mainline has been at the forefront of the DJ industry and this hands-on August 26 workshop will touch on all his experiences for Expo attendees. Not to be missed.

DJ COMPETITION
Hey Mobile DJs! Meet the industry's winners at the DJ Expo's annual "Mobile Entertainer Awards" on Wednesday, August 28! Trophies will be awarded for these categories: "Best Dance," "Best Choreographed Routine," "Best Game" & the prestigious "DJ of the Year." For entry & consideration, send a videotape with an original choreographed routine, game or dance to Mike Walter (elitedj101@aol.com) at Elite Entertainment, 20-22 Meridian Rd., Eatontown, NJ 07724

Top Industry Tech To Head Expo Panel
Longtime DJ Times contributor Paul Binder will moderate the Expo's always-informative "Shopping for DJ Equipment" seminar on Monday, August 26. In addition to fully examining the latest trends in DJ technology, Binder and his panel of experts will answer all gear-related questions from the audience. Audio or lighting gear, mobile or permanent application - no topic is off limits.
