A THAI policeman
has confessed to shooting one man dead and attempting to kill another
because they booed his karaoke performance, police said yesterday.
Jirawat Sangworn,
25, who has admitted both charges, claimed he was provoked by the
victims' heckling when he was about to sing the same song for the
fourth time in the early hours at a Bangkok nightclub.
As the abuse grew
fouler, he crossed to the victims' front row table. He killed one man
with two shots from his service pistol. The other was hit four times
and suffered serious injuries.
The policeman was
singing a Thai popular classic called Tears of a Sergeant, which
tells of an army officer whose wife runs off with a richer man,
leaving him with their only child.
A police spokesman
said: "The suspect confessed that he just could not stand their
teasing." Jirawat was arrested when he arrived for work at
national police headquarters later that day.
