QSC ANNOUNCES PLX AMPLIFIER SERIES PRICE REDUCTION

QSC recently reduced the price of the entire PLX Series of amplifiers. The announcement was made by Pete Kalmen, QSC Director of Sales and Marketing.

"We’ve lowered the price across the board by up to 20%" says Kalmen. "This has been made possible by combining our component buying power with our new ‘demand pull’ manufacturing process which have lowered our material costs. We are now passing the savings along to the customer. Now the consumer can step up to the benefits of QSC’s PowerWave™ technology-based products for much less than was previously possible. For just a few dollars more, you can enjoy higher power output capability, improved sonic performance and lighter weight."

The PLX Series incorporates QSC's exclusive PowerWave™ switching power supply. The line's five models range in power from 600 watts/ch to 1700 watts/ch at 2 ohms. Featuring advanced SMT (Surface Mount Technology) design, the line delivers high power in a compact 2-RU chassis weighing only 21 lbs (9.5 kg) and only 14" deep.

The PLX features studio-quality audio performance, including a virtually inaudible hum and noise (-110dB 20Hz-20kHz) and ultra-low distortion performance (.03% THD at rated power into 8 ohms).

Proportional-response clip limiters optimize limiting based on program material to preserve dynamics and lower distortion. The user selectable low-frequency filters increase usable power and protect speakers. Other standard features include all-metal XLR and 1/4" balanced inputs, Neutrik Speak-on and touch-post binding post outputs, and comprehensive LED indicators, including a three-step signal ladder, true clip, protect, bridge-mono, and parallel input mode status.

STRENGTH IN NUMBERS:

New Lights From American DJ

Contain Multiple Effects In One Unit

LOS ANGELES-Two heads are better than one . . . and four heads are truly astounding!  That's the theory behind a couple of new sound-activated lighting effects from American DJ-the Quadra-Force and Double Squeeze-which offer the excitement of  multiple heads in one unit.

As their names suggest, the Quadra-Force and the Double Squeeze produce the effect of multiple fixtures-four units and two units respectively.  Yet each comes packaged-and priced-as a single product, providing enough arsenal for clubs and DJs to put on an explosive light show, while holding the trigger on costs.

The Quadra Force is a complete four-unit sound-activated lighting system.  Each of the four units projects multi-dichroic rotating moonflower beams that create different gobo patterns.

The Double Squeeze features two independent motorized plates, each with six dichroic filters that spin back-and-forth to project gobos in a tunnel pattern.

"The Quadra Force and the Double Squeeze produce different types of effects.  But what they share in common is that they both contain multiple effects in a single unit," said Scott Davies, general manager of American DJ.  "This provides clubs and DJs with the power to produce an electrifying light show with multiple images, all in one convenient, cost-efficient package."

QUADRA-FORCE

True to its name, the Quadra-Force is a complete, sound-activated lighting system that includes four individual units. Each of the four units is a multi-dichroic rotating moonflower/gobo effect, which features a rotating mirror piece that is sound activated and will chase to the music. The four units are linked together master-slave to produce a perfectly orchestrated light show.

Adding even more excitement to this fixture, each of the four units comes with a different gobo pattern.  The gobo patterns are interchangeable and can be used to create a customized light show.

The Quadra-Force is fan cooled and includes a hanging bracket.  Weight is 9 lbs. (master), and 8 lbs. (slaves), and dimenisons are 6"H x 11.5"W x 12.75"L.  The suggested retail price of the Quadra-Force is $599.99.

DOUBLE SQUEEZE

The Double Squeeze is a sound-activated effect that will double a club's lighting excitement, without squeezing its budget. This fixture features two motorized, dichroic mirrored plates, which move independently to the sound of the music, creating two distinct gobo effects.  Each plate spins back and forth to project a flurry of gobos in a tantalizing tunnel pattern.

Each plate is also equipped with six dichroic filters that add dynamic color to the funnel-like patterns. In addition to the six dichroic color filters, each of the two plates can project one of seven different gobo patterns. With its ability to scatter a multitude of tunnel effects throughout a large area, Double Squeeze is proof postive that two heads are better than one!

The Double Squeeze has a 2 x ZB-EXY 82v/250W lamp.  The Dimensions are 33.5" x 8" x 6.5", and the weight is 25 lbs.  The suggested retail price of the Double Squeeze is $599.95.

WESTLAKE AUDIO RELEASES NEW

VERTICAL MONITOR SPEAKER SYSTEM

The New Lc3w12V, Perfect for Small- to Mid-Size Control Rooms,

Will Meet the Demands For Multi-channel Operations

NEWBURY PARK, Calif., Nov. 13, 2000¾Westlake Audio, the leader in high-quality audio products for more than 25 years, has released their new three-way Lc3w12V Monitor Speaker System. Housed in a bass-reflex enclosure, the compact Lc3w12V offers extensive electro-mechanical-acoustical dampening and integrated passive crossover for single or bi-amp operation.

Designed as an alternative to the successful horizontal version, the Lc3w12V system has been created to meet the demands of multi-channel operations, explains Ken Centofante, sales and marketing director for Westlake Audio. "In many ways the vertical design actually surpasses its counterpart when it comes to the needs of a multi-channel studio. For L-C-R use, it's essential that the monitor speakers are symmetrically designed, which Westlake has done with the Lc3w12V. It's the perfect fit for small- to mid-size control rooms."

The Lc3w12V  (14.5"W x 29.5"H x 15.5"D) comprises a 12-inch woofer, a 6.5-inch midrange and a 1-inch soft dome tweeter with 100/300 LF, 100/250 MF and 90/220 HF per IEC 268-5 power handling capacity and sensitivity of 91dB @ 1M for 2.83V input. The Lc3w12V's frequency response is rated at 40Hz-18kHz with an impedance level of 4 ohms nominal/3 ohms minimum. Amplifier inputs are dual-banana, five-way binding posts with bi-wire/bi-amp capability.

At 102 pounds, the Lc3w12V comes finished in a black utility paint and includes a one-year warranty. Accessories available include metal speaker stands, speaker muffs and custom speaker cables.

MACKIE GOES TO THE WORLD SERIES!  (Kinda').

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, (It's a wonderful town) - As reported on the official press site for Mackie Designs, Inc., Mackietone.com, in June 2000, Steve West and Bruno Ravel of B.O.M.B. Faktory were writing and recording the theme songs for a slew of Major League Baseball teams, including The New York Yankees, The New York Mets, The Boston Red Sox, and The Baltimore Orioles, to name just a few.

At that time, Steve West had commented, "It's looking pretty good for the Yankees, the Red Sox or the Mets... but regardless of what team gets to the big game, we're going to be rooting for the guy who hits the (stadium system) play button on our song!"

Well, turns out two of the teams for whom Steve and Bruno wrote theme songs wound up in the World Series, after all.  (It would have been only one theme song if the Seattle Mariners didn't choke... but we're not bitter).  If you have been locked in a box on a prison island in French Guyana, then you probably don't know The New York Mets and The New York Yankees are at each other in the first New York Subway Series since 1956.

"Ironically," Steve stated right after the second game of the 2000 World Series, "They are NOT playing the theme songs we wrote for the teams during the games!"  But what is happening is even better than just having the songs played over the stadium sound systems during the games.  The two theme songs, THE YANKEE MAMBO and THE METS ARE GONNA GETCHA', are getting, what Steve calls, "Madonna-like hit single rotation on the three major Top 40 New York City Radio stations."  WPLJ, Z-100 and WKTU are playing each song every hour! "Three times per hour is the minimum rotation for our songs just from these three stations," Steve states, almost in total amazement.

THE YANKEE MAMBO and THE METS ARE GONNA GETCHA' - both penned by Ravel and West - were produced with B.O.M.B. Faktory's Mackie Designs d8b on their Mackie HR824 Near-Field Monitors.

Bruno states, "With the D8B's recall ability, in seconds I can pull up mixes for any one of 12 to 18 on-going projects.  The D8B is a monster.  I'm still pinching myself that this thing is in my studio. It's really the tool that Steve and I needed to invest in so we can expand our burgeoning B.O.M.B. Faktory songwriting, publishing and production business.  If we didn't have the power and recall of the D8B, we'd still be working on team songs well after the close the of the World Series."

Continuing, Bruno note, "Along with the accuracy of the HR824 monitors, our projects are quickly completed here in our studio, without the need to incur additional expenses by going to outside mastering studios."

Bruno, who also sung all vocals on THE METS ARE GONNA GETCHA' points out, "I can't get in my car and turn on the radio without hearing either one of our songs!  It's so weird to hear my voice singing back at me constantly.  It seems like just last week we were mixing these tunes on our d8b and HR824s, thinking that the only place anyone was ever going to hear these tunes was if they were at a Mets or a Yankees game... Now every Met and Yankees fan in New York is singing them while riding the subway to the Yankee Stadium or Shea Stadium to root for their favorite team."

Steve continues, "The exposure THE YANKEE MAMBO and THE METS ARE GONNA GETCHA are both getting will hopefully cast a greater light on our other production and songwriting projects."

Again, when asked what team they are rooting for when they watch the games, Bruno states, "Will you be quiet, please?!  We're listening to our songs on the radio!"

Steve adds, "I wish Danger Danger," (referring to their other band project), "could get this kind of radio rotation."
