July 23, 2000

Sony Electronics has developed its first CD recorder for pro audio applications.

The CDR-W33 is designed for project recording, sound design and musician applications. This innovative product incorporates many special features, including selectable DSP functions like Parametric EQ, Limiter & SBM (Super Bit Mapping), and high-quality 24-bit AD/DA conversion.

The CDR-W33 offers CD-TEXT TM support, which allows disc/track names to be displayed and entered from the front panel AMS controller, the supplied remote control or an optional PC keyboard. In addition, remote transport control can be accessed via Control-S or a PC-compatible keyboard.

"CD-Rs have become an important product in a wide variety of professional applications," commented Paul Foschino, marketing manager of the professional audio group at Sony Electronics' Broadcast and Professional Company. "The CDR-W33 has been designed with a diverse set of features to address the needs of the professional user. Unique features like built in DSP and high-resolution converters will appeal to musicians and studio owners alike."

The CDR-W33 also includes a wireless/wired remote control unit. "A dual-function remote offers audio pros the option of working in the manner they prefer," Foschino said. "It gives engineers real control over their working environment."

Additional key features include:

  • 32kHz-48kHz built-in sampling rate converter

  • CD-R-DA, CD-RW-DA recording media support
  • FL display
  • I/Os equipped with Coaxial Digital, Optical Digital, Analog Unbalanced phone jack
  • 2U rack mountable size in EIA.

The CDR-W33 will be available by October.
